1. 머리말 2. 도선설화와 고구려 주몽신화 3. 정치적 전략으로서의 도선설화 4. 도선설화의 전승전략 5. 맺음말 본고는 영암지역에서 전승되고 있는 도선국사의 설화를 대상으로 하여 설화의 전승전략으로서의 정치성에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 도선국사에 관한 최초의 기록은 「도선비문」으로, 이것은 고려왕조에 의해 다분히 정치적으로 이용되어 전승된 측면이 강하다. 특히 도선의 탄생담에 나타난 신화성이 고려 왕조에 의한 의도적 장치라고 할 때 더욱 그러하다. 이는 오랜 시간을 거치는 동안 설화가 전승될 수 있는 동인이 구비문학의 담당층인 민중의 요구에 의해서만이 아니라, 정치적 요인에 의해서도 영향을 받고 전승될 수 있음을 의미하는 것이다. 도선설화는 21세기 현대 영암지역에서 또다시 정치적 목적에 의해 활용되고 있다. 영암의 지역축제인 왕인문화축제의 기본이 되는 설화는 왕인박사설화인데, 그 내용을 들여다보면 왕인설화가 아닌 도선설화인 것이다. 왕인박사에 대한 문헌적 근거와 설화가 부족하게 되자 관과 일부 학자들이 도선설화를 왕인설화로 둔갑시켜버린 것이다. 그러나 오히려 이러한 일은 지역민들의 도선설화에 대한 애정을 강화하는 계기가 되었다. 이것은 설화가 오랜 기간 전승되기 위해서는 무엇보다도 설화전승집단의 욕구가 가장 중요하다는 것을 증명하는 것이다. 정치적 목적에 의해 설화는 얼마든지 형성되고 전승될 수 있다. 그러나 그것은 설화를 생성하고 유포시킬 수는 있지만, 설화를 오랜 기간 전승시킬 수는 없다. 결국 구전설화의 전승력은 설화향유집단의 필요성에 있는 것임을 도선설화를 통해 다시 한번 확인할 수 있었다.

This study examined the political nature of folk tales of National Master Do-Seon succeeded in Yeongnam Province as a transmission strategy. The first record on National Master Do-Seon was 「Doseonbimun」 which was transmitted for political reasons in the Goryeo dynasty. This means the cause of transmission of folk tales could not only be affected by the request of the public of oral literature, but also by a political factor in the lengthy progress. The Do-Seon folk tales are utilized for the political purpose in the contemporary Yeongam region again. The basic folk tales of Wang-in Cultural Festival as a local festival of Yeongnam is D.r Wang-in folk tales. However, when it comes to figure out the details, it is not Wang-in folk tales but Do-Seon folk tales. When the literature basis and folk tales about Dr. Wang-In were insufficient, some scholars replaced Do-Seon folk tales and Wang-In folk tales. Nonetheless, such happening could play a role in reinforcing the affection of Do-Seon folk tales by local residents. This demonstrates that desire of folk tales transmission groups is of utmost important for prolonged transmission of folk tales. While folk tales could be created and distributed by political purposes, the transmission is only made possible by the need of enjoyment groups of folk tales, which was clearly confirmed through Do-Seon folk tales.
